Tulipa 'Northcap' are a striking cut flower featuring large, peony-shaped double blooms in a pure, snowy white. Tightly layered petals create a full, rounded form, and as blooms mature they develop subtle cream and soft-ivory undertones, with a hint of burnt yellow at the center that deepens with time. Unlike most double early varieties, Northcap's petals stay single-colored, giving it a clean, elegant presence. Reliably one of the earliest tulips to bloom, it's a favorite for peony-lovers looking for an early-season substitute.
Quantity: 10 Bulbs (9°C)
Growing Specifications
- Bloom Time: Early spring
- Height: 12 to 16 inches
- Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade
- Hardiness Zones: Zones 3–7, fall planting in the Upstate SC (Oct - Dec) for spring blooms. Must cover when evening temperatures are 35 degrees or below when buds are forming.
- Pre-Cooling: These bulbs arrive having already received a portion of their required cooling period at 9°C (48°F), giving growers in mild climates like the Upstate a head start toward the cold hours tulips need, resulting in a stronger, more reliable bloom.
Planting & Care Instructions
- Soil: Plant in rich, well-draining soil amended with compost.
- Depth & Spacing: Plant bulbs 6 to 8 inches deep, spaced 4 to 6 inches apart.
- Moisture: Water thoroughly at planting; normal rainfall is usually sufficient thereafter except in very dry climates.
