Tulipa 'Largo' are a striking cut flower featuring wide, peony-like double blooms held atop strong stems with grey-green foliage. Note: the pictured blooms show a hot pink hue, a result of forcing under grow lights — when grown under natural sunlight, Largo blooms true red. This double early variety is also well-suited to early forcing, making it a versatile choice for both field growing and controlled bloom timing.
Quantity: 10 Bulbs (5°C)
Growing Specifications
- Bloom Time: Early to mid spring
- Height: 12 to 16 inches
- Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade
- Hardiness Zones: Zones 3–8, fall planting in the Upstate SC (Oct - Dec) for spring blooms. Must cover when evening temperatures are 35 degrees or below when buds begin to form.
- Pre-Cooling: These bulbs arrive having already received most of their required cooling period at 5°C (41°F), giving growers in mild climates like the Upstate a head start toward the cold hours tulips need, resulting in a stronger, more reliable bloom.
Planting & Care Instructions
- Soil: Plant in rich, well-draining soil amended with compost.
- Depth & Spacing: Plant bulbs 6 to 8 inches deep, spaced closely (as close as possible without touching) for cut-flower production.
- Moisture: Water thoroughly at planting; normal rainfall is usually sufficient thereafter except in very dry climates.
