Tulipa 'Cabana Parrot' are a striking cut flower featuring large, oversized, heavily ruffled blooms that open creamy white with soft pink flushes, dabbed with soft yellow-green at the base and delicately edged in green. As each bloom matures, the pink deepens further, giving every stem a shifting, painterly quality. One of the longest-lasting parrot varieties in the garden, Cabana Parrot holds its ruffled form well both in the field and in the vase.
Quantity: 10 Bulbs
Growing Specifications
- Bloom Time: Mid to late spring
- Height: 18 to 20 inches
- Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade
- Hardiness Zones: Zones 3–7, fall planting in the Upstate SC (Oct - Dec) for spring blooms. Must cover when evening temperatures are 35 degrees or below when buds are forming.
- Pre-Cooling: These bulbs arrive having already received a portion of their required cooling period at 9°C (48°F), giving growers in mild climates like the Upstate a head start toward the cold hours tulips need, resulting in a stronger, more reliable bloom.
Planting & Care Instructions
- Soil: Plant in rich, well-draining soil amended with compost.
- Depth & Spacing: Plant bulbs 6 to 8 inches deep, spaced closely (as close as possible without touching) for cut-flower production.
- Moisture: Water thoroughly at planting; normal rainfall is usually sufficient thereafter except in very dry climates.
- Harvest Tip: For sturdier stems, harvest when blooms are still a bit closed rather than fully open — parrot tulip stems tend to have more movement/flex than other types.
