Reflecting on the Season After Helene

Reflecting on the Season After Helene

As summer market season ended, we stepped into fall with a mix of excitement and challenges.

While Hurricane Helene was intense, it wasn’t our toughest day on the farm.

In the beginning of our farm, we’ve faced complete devastation from flooding.

Above is a picture of our 2020 complete flood at our first farm location.

In those moments, our incredible community lifted us up and helped us find drier ground, both literally and figuratively.

As for what did happen the day of Helene; we partially flooded at the “new” farm.

Fortunately, we only lost two beds of vegetables, though multiple trees came down across the property.

One even tried to take out the greenhouse if it wasn’t for a small but mighty cherry tree saving our baby plants.

Post Helene Dahlia Patch

Our dahlias were flood, but they are resilient!

The worst of it was, losing some precious topsoil; and its absence may impact growth come spring.

And as I reflect on what has happened and the future - I trust and believe that we are meant to farm.

And It’s also why we haven’t quit.

We’re dedicated to caring for the land, stewarding God’s creation, and embracing sustainable practices that support the environment and future generations.

Our journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s deeply meaningful.

And now, we’re looking forward to 2025, with big plans that may be challenging but are aligned with the changes we believe in and have dreamed of for years.

Thank you for standing by us, for supporting local, and for believing in our mission.

Together, we’ll continue to nurture the land and each other, rain or shine.

PS. Big thank you to a select few who helped us break down some trees. You know who you are! The first day, Ian and I were hand-sawing one tree trying to clear the road.
